Under Nevada law, accident victims may be entitled to three main categories of damages: economic, noneconomic, and punitive damages.
Economic Damages
These are financial losses that can be documented and calculated, such as:
- Medical expenses (ER visits, surgery, rehabilitation, medications)
- Car repair or replacement costs
- Bills for property damage
- Lost wages and lost earning capacity
Noneconomic Damages
These compensate you for the more personal, non-financial harms caused by the accident, including:
- Physical pain and suffering
- Emotional distress
- Inconvenience and disruption to daily life
- Physical impairment or disfigurement
- Loss of enjoyment of life
- Loss of companionship or support
- Post-traumatic stress and anxiety
Punitive Damages
In cases where the at-fault partyβs conduct was especially reckless, malicious, or egregious β such as extreme drunk driving or intentional harm β the court may award punitive damages to punish that behavior and discourage similar conduct in the future.
